Liberal Democrats have secured £1.2million to redevelop the Place St Maur in Bognor Regis.
Arun District Council is on the verge of receiving the money, from the Coast to Capital Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP), to give the seafront site a much needed facelift.
Cllr Francis Oppler said “The Place St Maur is an important seafront site that has been overlooked for far too long. The investment in this area will focus on turning it into a prime multi purpose outdoor events and dwell space, which will have far reaching social and economic benefits for the town.”
Place St Maur will be brought to life with new seating, soft landscaping, water jets and a flexible venue for outdoor events.
At the same time an outline and timeline for a sympathetic enhancement of the much loved Sunken Gardens has also been agreed.
Cllr Matt Stanley said “This is a great opportunity to revitalise a piece of community green space, the gardens hold a special place in the hearts of Bognor Regis residents. This work will seek to make the gardens more attractive to families and amongst other things finally open up the southern entrance.”
Work will progress swiftly at Plas St Maur as, under the terms of the funding agreement, the money has to be spent by March 31 2022.
Matt concludes "This project is the kick-start Bognor Regis Regeneration has been crying out for and it has the potential to deliver far reaching social and economic benefits for the town.”
