Visitor information centre removal "called in"

Arun lib dems succeeded in "calling in" Arun District Council's plan to remove the the Visitor Information Centre and Littlehampton Experience from the Look and Sea Centre in Littlehampton.

Local Lib Dem councillor Dr James Walsh and other councillors from across the council successfully argued that the decision by Arun District Council should be halted and investigated by the council's scrutiny committee.

Dr James Walsh said "Only recently there was a meeting of the Littlehampton Regeneration sub-Committee, and the plan was not even put on the agenda, and the sub-Committee unanimously expressed its disapproval at being ignored. Then the Cabinet (all Conservative) approved leasing off the site for 25 years, without any business plan, without any facts, figures or budget, and the ending of the tourism-vital Visitor Information Centre and Littlehampton Experience."

We strongly feel that the Town Council, local residents and users, as well as the local business community, should be part of this quick consultation. The Look and Sea Centre is in a prime site, and vital to town centre regeneration and vitality, and we all want it to reopen and be a vibrant, sustainable and go-to destination for the town, but retaining a modernised Visitor Information Centre."
